Helen's Tribute

I first met Amanda in 2016 at Women and Work (Now Works for Us) when they were based above the Milton Keynes Train Station.

At that time it was just a brief hello and goodbye as they went passed where I was working as a volunteer.

I had an insight to their work as Pandora Inc CIC they did a presentation  at the Woman and Work AGM which was inspiring and informative.

I met up with Amanda again in 2017 when I joined Arts Central at Norfolk House which had the Figure 8 monument outside it.

Once there we helped each other out Amanda  supported me with my first business event at the The MK Centre for Integrated Living which I based in the Central Milton  Keynes Church.

Amanda went outside handing out my flyers to anyone that was about and also put my flyers on car windscreen.

She kindly stayed  with me at the event too which gave me the confidence to promote my business from then onwards.

Whilst at Norfolk House Amanda asked me to help her do a flyer for her event which she was organising.

It was great fun doing that for her and I got to know her very well, what she liked and didn't like and her determination and drive to get things done.

We became firm friends from then on and it was a life journey I will never forget.

Unfortunately the event didn't go ahead but by producing the flyer for her I was one of the go to people for the other projects she was doing.

Here are some photos of the flyers and  Facebook cover photos I produced for her below.

I had also done a sponsored Swimathon with her which her company would receive a donation from the Newport Pagnell Rotary Club. I had not swam for ages because of my inner condition but if she could do it so could I.

Amanda also gave me material for me to make my walking stick bags and seat covers and other orders I was working on which was very grateful for.

I made her a seat cover which was water proof but stylish and had recently made her another one which sadly was not completed but she had it with her as I wanted to see if it fitted but I am glad she got to see it and feel the texture of the velvet cover.

As you can see she was involved in lots of projects and even had her own radio show at Secklow Sounds

Arts Central needed to move location and unfortunately the place was not easily accessible so I did not see Amanda that often but was in contact via email and Facebook.

I attended an I am Remarkable Event she organised and presented at Works for Us at the Point where i saw her in action and came away with a more positive approach to job seeking.

2020 Amanda invited me to be a volunteer with the Stables Inclusive Advisory Group in 2020 which she was a Chair person which where I met Harriet and her guide dog Sparky.

We were on the group for a a little while attending monthly meeting at the stable which she kindly gave me a lift to care of Ian then covid happened.

So when things started opening up the group meeting was done by Zoom which made me proud of Amanda for getting hang of Techie stuff and adapting to chairing  meetings online.

Once the Stables had achieved what they wanted to do the advisory group ended but made friends on the way.

Amanda had then asked if I could help update her website Pandora_inc_cic.wixsite.com. working on that was a joy and sometimes a challenge as we discovered what didn't work.

The end result was definitely what she wanted and was in her favourite colours and how she wanted it designed.

I updated the website for her as a when she needed it so she kept  me busy. I needed the distraction as I had lost my mum to cancer in that year 2021

So our final venture together was at first going to be a newsletter which was just going to be emailed out to Amanda’s friends , business associates and various groups.

So it all started it 5 days before New Year 2022. Amanda messaged me and asked how quick could I help her produce a  newsletter?

I said depending on how much content you have and best to start sending material as soon as possible. So three days before New Year we were thrashing out the  Newsletter. I sent her the final document for her to send it to everyone by New year’s evening.

Then as an after thought she asked if we could put it on her Pandora Inc CIC website.

So quickly added another page on her Website and Decided to name it Diversity Divas E-magazine.

So that's how this E-magazine came to be and I was honoured that she asked me to help and so proud of her on what she has achieved and glad that I was chosen to fulfil that achievement with her.

I will miss Amanda so much and wanted to share my tribute with the whole world on how amazing Amanda Really was.

Thank you for taking the time to read this tribute.

I first met Amanda through a Disability, Advisory And Inclusion group that was set up to further improve the accessibility of a music venue called The Stables Theatre in Wavendon for people of all disabilities.

Even though I only knew her for a short time, she made a big impression on my life.

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, I only met Amanda in person a couple of times, but I was always inspired by her positive energy and enthusiasm to change the world for disabled people and how confident she was. I thought she did a wonderful job of being chair of the afore mentioned group and always came up with fantastic ideas.

More recently, I was delighted when she asked me to be a part of her disability magazine, Diversity Divas, and contribute a recipe each month from my cooking blog. I hope I can still do this if the magazine is able to continue.

In summary, Amanda was a wonderful person who loved life and didn't let her disability stop her achieving great things. I was so pleased I got to know her in the way I did. I hope her positive attitude to disability continues for a long time into the future.

Rest in peace.

Love Harriet and guide dog Sparky xxx
